The following method was used to get the Narrowstep players working on a MacBook Pro. This work-around will only be necessary until Flip4Mac brings out a "Universal Binary" version of their plug-in, which they are working on.
First, install Flip4Mac v2.0.2 ** using "Rosetta" ** (the PPC emulator).
To do this, [1] find the Installer application (usually in Applications/Utilities) and do select "Get info" from the menu. Check the box marked "Open using Rosetta" (or equivalent in your language) then [2] the Flip4Mac installer should run as you would expect. More on this process here: http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=13902 amongst other places.
Don't forget [3] to switch your installer back to not using Rosetta afterwards!
You do not need to do the same to the QuickTime player (as frequently recommended) to use Narrowstep players, but you might like to anyway so you can play local WMV files etc (all this at your own risk, of course!).
Then (if you haven't already) install the latest version of Firefox (not Safari as there is still a bug causing a nasty echo).
Find the Firefox app [4] (probably in Applications) and do the same ("Get info" from the menu, then check the box marked "Open using Rosetta"). **That step is very important!**
Now run Narrowstep players as usual in Firefox! For a selected list visit: http://www.narrowstep.com.
If the video disappears, press keys cmd+r to reload the player and start again.
NOTE: On widescreen players, the aspect ratio may seem a bit off but you will still be able to watch the video.
We are looking forward to native performance, of course, but at least this will mostly work in the meantime. Please let us know how you get on with it, or any other tweaks or tips you come across by writing to Narrowstep Player Technical Support at support@narrowstep.com.
